Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have nearly choked on their pints after hearing the wage demands of Red Devils transfer target Arturo Vidal, as reported by Metro.
The Juventus star has been identified as a top transfer target for incoming United boss Louis van Gaal with the Red Devils being linked with a £35 million move for the Chile international.
However, reports suggest the proposed move has stalled after Vidal rejected United’s contract offer of £100,000-a-week – saying he will only consider a move if an offer of £150,000-a-week is made.
The news is set to come as a blow to Louis van Gaal, who has admired the midfielder since his days in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
However, United are reluctant to be held to ransom over wages and may be forced to turn their attentions elsewhere unless a compromise can be met.
Vidal told Chilean TV on Tuesday that he was aware of the interest from Manchester United and remained calm about his future.
“I’m already at a great team, Juventus, so I will be just as calm if the Manchester United option falls through,” he said.
