The Daily Mirror have Everton fans looking rather impressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that Roberto Martinez is set to hold firm and keep Manchester United target Leighton Baines at the club this January.
The high flying Toffees manager spoke about the future of his long serving defender and noted: “I can guarantee that Leighton Baines will be here at the end of the season. That is 100 percent.
“Bryan Oviedo has been terrific while Baines has been injured, but we will need them both.”
Of course, Manchester United boss David Moyes is on the hunt for a couple of players and the money it would take to prise Baines away from the Toffees is not something our punters think would be worth it at this stage in the game.
If Moyes really wants a left back, one of our punters makes the suggestion that Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao would potentially be available on the loan deal that failed in the summer.
A midfielder is what the punters here in the tavern think United need the most and it seems that our landlord agrees with them.
Should Baines remain with Everton and the club get into the Champions League, that may mean the full back chooses to see Everton through their European adventure and even extend his stay with the Merseyside club.
Will Martinez hold true to his word? Let us know your thoughts below.
