The latest sought after South American talent is the subject of discussion in the Football Transfer Tavern after Manchester United were strongly linked with a move for Everton Ribeiro in January.
However Sky Sports now report that his club side Cruzeiro has repeated their ambition to keep hold of their star midfielder despite the interest from Old Trafford.
David Moyes has reportedly sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old, who won the Player of the Year award in Brazil last year and has impressed with his assured performances in the middle of the park.
He was thought to be valued at around £8 million as Moyes looked for a cheap option to strengthen his struggling United side.
The Red Devils could yet face competition from cash-rich clubs in the Middle East, but his current club are committed to keeping him with until at least the summer.
“[Any club wanting Everton Ribeiro] will need to offer a lot of money to sign him. I can’t ensure he will be at the club his whole life, but [I’ll only sell him] if an offer reaches what I want,” Cruzeiro’s president Gilvan de Pinho Tavares told Lancenet.
“I am good at keeping players at the club, I kept Walter Montillo a whole season, so the fans can be calm as it won’t be any offer that will be enough to sign Everton Ribeiro.”
The club’s director of football Alexandre Mattos added: “There is nothing official, he was sounded out and there were some talks with Ukraine and Qatar, but nothing official.
“And that’s not only regarding Everton Ribeiro, but also regarding the other players.”
The player also denied that there are any offers for him, saying: “I can’t say that I’ll leave when there is nothing concrete.
“I am focusing on Cruzeiro, Libertadores is about to start and we have to be prepared for the competition.”
This is a blow for United and for the player himself who revealed recently that he would prefer a move to Old Trafford.
“I will continue doing my job here at Cruzeiro but plan on getting to a big club,” he was stated as saying. “It’s a dream I’ve had since young, I’ve always liked Manchester United.”
