Metro have a story that has turned a couple of heads here in the Football Transfer Tavern today as it seems Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas’ future is in his own hands.
The ex-Arsenal captain has been linked with a move back to his former club this summer and also with a move to Manchester United to link up once again with Robin van Persie.
Now it seems that new Barca coach Gerardo Martino has treated the situation with an open mind. The ex-Newell’s Old Boys manager noted: “I have spoken with Cesc and he told me what he thought.
“The idea of not counting on him doesn’t enter my mind, but the player also has to decide. I dare to say that he will stay.”
Barcelona team-mate Javier Mascherano spoke about Fabregas’ attitude in training and noted that: “I see him here training and he is happy. He grew up in Barcelona and feels the call of the shirt.
“It is difficult when you grow up here to leave because Barcelona is a big team, a big city, really nice to live in and all his family is here.
“I think he is a really key player for us and I think the coach and the people who work here want to keep him.”
This of course would see Red Devils boss David Moyes return to the drawing board after considering a move for Thiago Alcantara this summer and now having to face the fact that Fabregas may also be out of his reach.
A third option could be Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio who noted that he was ‘flattered’ to be linked with a club such as United.
