Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern can’t quite believe what they are hearing from the landlord after the Daily Express revealed the Red Devils are set to announce the £20m signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.
The German international has been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few years, but it looks as though he could be following Jurgen Klopp out of the club this summer.
United have finally found the initiative to push this deal over the line after spending numerous transfer windows toying with the midfielder.
Louis van Gaal would have also fancied his chances this time round after Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that Gundogan would be moving on this summer.
It seems as though he is the man to replace Michael Carrick at the heart of United’s midfield in the future as the Englishman turns 34 next July.
