Like everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern we were left entirely disappointed with last night’s 0-0 snooze-fest between Manchester United and Chelsea, although looking back it was always on the cards given the circumstances.
United boss David Moyes would have been satisfied with his side’s performance but it certainly highlighted some problems in their current setup especially in the centre of the park.
Therefore when Alan Nixon from Mirror Football arrives in the tavern to tell punters that Moyes will now make a new, separate £25 million bid for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini in the next 24 hours, we aren’t massively surprised.
The Toffees have already rejected a combined offer from the current Premier League champions for Fellaini and England international left back Leighton Baines but now former Goodison Park boss Moyes could return, just for the Belgian midfielder.
Bill Kenwright is desperate not to sell either of their key players to the Old Trafford outfit but will find it hard to reject an offer over £20 million for the former Standard Liege man.
Roberto Martinez has already started looking for a replacement and has outlined a move for Wigan Athletic’s James McCarthy while also ironically seeking a loan deal with United for youngster Nick Powell.
Martinez’s former side are looking for around £20 million for McCarthy but the Toffees plan to make a lower offer that they think will be acceptable to the Championship side and the Republic of Ireland star could follow him to Merseyside.
Should Everton sell for £25 million or will Moyes face more transfer disappointment? Let us know your thoughts below.
