Manchester United fans in Football Tavern are devastated after news in the Daily Star revealed that Jordi Alba intends to end his career at Barcelona.
Louis van Gaal is a huge admirer of the 26-year-old as he is another spectacular talent to emerge from Barca’s famous youth academy La Masia, joining the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
The Champions League winners will be thrilled to have the former Valencia star at the club for the foreseeable future as they look to build on their treble winning team.
Van Gaal maybe considered making a bid for Alba in the future but this news rules this possibility out.
And the former Bayern Munich coach will have to look elsewhere as he is determined to make one of the strongest defences in Europe.
“I want to stay at Barcelona for many, many years,” the full-back said.
“When I was little, I had to leave [Barca], but I’m finally back where I wanted to be the whole time.
“I learned a lot in these past three years and have also won several trophies.
“Nobody knows what the future holds but, if possible, I’d hang up my boots at Barcelona.”
