Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking smug after the Daily Express revealed they were set to pip Liverpool to Roma’s midfield duo Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan with a £66m swoop.
The Reds had initially targeted the pair as their main replacements for Steven Gerrard in the summer.
And reports in Italy have claimed that Rudi Garcia would be forced to sell the pair in the up and coming transfer window in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.
The two midfielders are key figures in Roma’s line up but they will have to be sacrificed.
After they were hit by sanctions last week ordering them to pay a €6million fine while also cutting their squad size for next season’s Champions League campaign from 25 players to 22.
After these sanctions were made everybody anticipated them to end up at Anfield but now it looks as though the Red Devils are going to hijack their efforts.
