The Sunday Times has certainly managed to stun the Football Transfer Tavern. Even our landlord is putting down the plate of nachos he was about to serve and stopping to digest the latest claim from the publication surrounding the future of Gareth Bale.
The forward of course made the record breaking move to Real Madrid in the summer, but has since struggled for form and been rather unfairly dubbed the ‘new Kaka’ by the Spanish press.
Now it seems that Manchester United are keeping tabs on the player they missed out on, with a view to swooping next summer should Bale fail to find form and live up to his huge price tag.
As one of our punters notes, Bale has not been fully fit this season, yet has still managed to bag a goal and despite rumours, settle in well with the squad. Speculation of a move is premature to say the very least!
United of course failed with their £100 million bid for the former Tottenham Hotspur player, and are confident that Florentino Perez would listen to a bid in the summer should the pressure continue to mount over Bale.
It may not be silly season, but our landlord tells us that these kinds of rumours are always flying around, and the chances of United actually landing Bale are slim. Slim but not impossible. This is football of course and the crazy world of Real Madrid means that anything is possible. Quite what Bale thinks of this speculation less than six months into his ‘dream’ move remains to be seen however.
