But they could soon continue their rebuilding project with a move for FC Dnipro’s star man instead.
Liverpool had been long-term admirers of Yehven Konoplyanka but according to talkSPORT, it now seems that Louis Van Gaal could have pipped them to his signature.
The 24-year-old helped FC Dnipro qualify for the Champions League this season and scored eight goals in 27 appearances last season.
But it now seems that a move to Western Europe is on the cards with the Premier League said to be his favoured destination.
Fans in England will be well aware of Konoplyanka’s ability as he scored during England’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine at Wembley Stadium during a 2014 World Cup qualifier.
And according to a Dnipro source, the Ukrainian will become even more of a well-known quantity in England after they offered £12 million for his signing.
