The Football Transfer Tavern is rammed today as more and more people swarm in for this evenings World Cup fixtures.
But there’s also domestic football to discuss including a shock move involving two of the Premier League’s biggest rivals.
According to the Daily Express, Manchester United have made a move for Arsenal’s unsettled defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The Belgium international endured a frustrating spell at the Emirates Stadium last season after falling behind first choice defensive duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
He only made 14 appearances last season but it hasn’t stopped Louis van Gaal bidding for the former Ajax defender as he looks to replace Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are the only senior central defenders on United’s books at present and it is a position that the club are keen to strengthen.
But any deal could take weeks to sort as Vermaelen is currently representing his country at the World Cup in Brazil.
Arsenal fans. Should you refuse to sell Vermaelen to another Premier League club? Let us know your thoughts below.
