The Daily Mail have a rather worrying story for Everton fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that Manchester United could well be set to bid up to £20 million for Leighton Baines this summer.
It had been thought that Baines would be following Moyes and making the switch to Old Trafford yet after the player himself noted that he wanted to stay at Goodison Park and remain working under new manager Roberto Martinez, doubts emerged and Everton fans thought that they could well have a chance of keeping the player.
United have of course been long-term fans of the full back and see him as the eventual successor to Patrice Evra at left back and have held a candle for him long before the arrival of David Moyes.
Now it seems that the club are willing to go all out to land the player and will stop at nothing to bring him to Old Trafford.
Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright noted that: “Leighton is under contract and I’ve told David not to come back for him, although there is nothing to stop him. He knows we want him to stay.”
Will £20 million prove too good to turn down for Everton this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
