There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Mirror that Manchester United have abandoned plans to sign Asmir Begovic given the recent form of David De Gea.
The Spanish keeper struggled at the club initially and it is only in the recent weeks that the young stopper has effectively come good and shown the form that placed himself on Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar in the first place.
Begovic has also been in excellent form and has been on wanted lists not only at Old Trafford but several other Premier League clubs too. The Potters stopper has never made any denials that the interest from clubs such as United is flattering but has always noted that his focus is Stoke and ensuring that they get as far up the table as they can.
De Gea has looked increasingly comfortable in recent weeks and has even begun to claim crosses in the box – a major problem for the 22-year-old before. Now he has even kept a clean sheet for the last 627 minutes leading Fergie to claim ‘he has developed and matured as the season has gone on.’
