We’ve almost choked on our pints in the Football Transfer Tavern because of the latest news delivered from Jamie Jackson of The Guardian
The journo reckons Manchester United are set to offer Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos a sensational £260,000-a-week deal to make the move to Old Trafford.
Wayne Rooney is the club’s highest earner, with a contract worth a reported £300,000 a week, but the move for Kroos would see the 24-year-old join the England striker and Robin van Persie as the Red Devils’ highest earners.
Manchester United are aware they face a fight to land the German international, with Bayern Munich claiming they will refuse to sell.
But David Moyes is hoping to take advantage of the contract stand-off between Kroos and the club, and hopes a lucrative contract offer will prove the difference.
Kroos has just one year remaining on his current contract, and is yet to agree an extension at the Allianz Arena.
Moyes has identified the midfield star as a priority signing for the summer, with the United boss set to be given huge funds to rebuild the club.
United have endured a dreadful debut season under Moyes, which will end with them missing out on the Champions League for the first time in 18 years.
Moyes is still hopeful the lucrative contract on offer, and the club’s rich history will persuade Kroos to make the move.
Will this lucrative pay package be enough to lure Kroos to Manchester United in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
