Our regulars in the Football Transfer Tavern have raised eyebrows at the latest claim coming from the Daily Star and as one of our Manchester United fans notes, it could well be one of the most ludicrous rumours we have ever heard.
The publication have picked up on reports from Spain that seem to think that not only will Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta try and lure Jose Mourinho to be the next manager at the Camp Nou; he will also try and bring Cristiano Ronaldo to the club from Real Madrid!
Firstly our regulars point out that if Ronaldo goes anywhere, we think it will be back to former club Manchester United.
Secondly, Barcelona are supposed to be serving a transfer ban which would render them impotent in the market until January 2016.
However, the Catalans are appealing that again and finally, we think there is more chance of Mohamed Salah winning the Ballon d’Or than of Real Madrid selling their greatest ever player to arch-rivals Barca!
Of course, as our regulars point out, that would cost a huge amount of cash – an eyewatering amount – and given Ronaldo is pushing 30, we wonder if Barcelona would even see this as economical sense. This is not to mention Lionel Messi’s reaction to that deal!
Manchester United fans. Is this the craziest transfer rumour you have read for some time? Let us know your thoughts below.
