It is all systems go for Manchester United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern now they have heard the news from the Manchester Evening News.
The MEN have claimed that David Moyes is ‘well into’ his summer recruitment drive, and wants all of his business done by the start of the World Cup midway through June.
As our punters note over a pint, that means that all the targets we have been hearing about, from Southampton duo Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana to Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani, are all well on their way to Old Trafford – or so Moyes hopes.
Given his, shall we say, issues in last summer’s transfer window, we think that it could well be a very good thing that Moyes has started early, and will have time to make some back-up plans should his initial choices fail to come off.
It seems very clear that United will not be in the Champions League next season, and Moyes is fully aware of that.
The ex-Everton manager claimed: “I’ve got to say I’m well into my planning with my thoughts and ideas getting ready for next year.
“We’re linked with player after player and every time I go to a game, I’m supposed to signing three or four players from that game.
“That isn’t the case, but everyone is well aware we are looking to make signings and will try to do that whenever the opportunity arises.
“It will probably be after the end of the season before anything takes place, but we have got to look to do one or two things.”
Do you think Moyes will be able to do ‘one or two things’ that do not involve embarrassing the club further? Let us know your thoughts below.
