Manchester United made some big splashes in the summer transfer window, and added some quality additions to their squad which finally appears good enough to challenge for the Premier League title.
The Red Devils’ additions of the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic have given them a genuine chance of taking the title back to Old Trafford, and the United fans here in the Tavern are optimistic this season can breed some success.
However, our landlord thinks the club should have spent even more, and he reckons that long term, the club will regret missing out on the signing of Alvaro Morata and allowing him to join Chelsea instead.
The big Spaniard has been an immediate hit in the Premier League with the Blues, scoring for fun and endearing himself to the Chelsea faithful with some excellent performances under his belt already.
While United do have Lukaku and the pace in wide areas of Rashford and Martial, they do also have an ageing Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who surely cannot have that much left in the tank following a serious injury which has ruled him out for almost a year.
A club like United need more than just one world class focal point in their team, and it’s hard to see how United would manage should Lukaku suffer serious injury at some point during the campaign. Morata will no doubt go on to have a brilliant career with Chelsea, and United could well regret allowing the Spanish star to slip through their grasp.
United fans, what do you think? Should you have gone all out for Morata? Let us know!
