Manchester United got their season underway this weekend with a routine home win over Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho’s men rarely looked in danger following an early Paul Pogba penalty, and it was just what was needed after a miserable summer of off field issues threatened to overshadow the beginning of the campaign.
However, three points is three points, and the club will move on and hope to keep some momentum going in the race for the Premier League title.
The argument between board and Mourinho though does not appear to have been fully put to bed yet, and we at the Transfer Tavern think United have missed a trick in not bringing in a few certain players to their squad over the summer.
One such player we think they should have moved for is Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, who is reportedly not 100% settled in the Spanish capital anymore.
While he is not getting any younger, Modric is a world class talent, and proved it this summer over in Russia as he helped guide his country to the final of the tournament.
United have Paul Pogba in the middle, and new signing Fred looks set to be a star, but they lack that genuine world class ball player who can control the tempo of a game, and Modric is that type of player.
It could well end up being one that got away for United and Mourinho, with a player like Modric no often being available in the market.
Man U fans, what do you think? Should you have gone for Modric? Let us know your thoughts!
