Our Manchester United supporting punters have watched hopes of a return to former glories this season all but fade, with no player being perhaps so indicative of that than a certain Memphis Depay.
The not so Flying Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford with a hefty reputation after winning the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven last season, though has failed to replicate the stunning form that made him such a hot prospect a year ago.
A good start with two goals to get the club into the Champions League proper looks a distant memory now and he has lost his place in the starting lineup under Louis van Gaal.
As a result, he’s largely invoked the ire of the Red Devils faithful for his sloppy performances and lack of cutting edge.
Still, the 22-year old does still have one huge fan at least.
Arjen Robben.
The Bayern Munich superstar, linked with a move to Manchester himself, has backed his misfiring countryman to make it into wonderland at the Theatre of Dreams despite a slow start to life there, according to the Daily Mail
‘He’s a very talented player, but you can’t underestimate how big a step it is up to the Premier League, and especially to a big club like Man United’, the 32-year old told the Match of the Day magazine.
‘He’s still very young – you have to give him some time. The talent is there – he’s got everything that he needs to be a success in England!’
Will Depay make it at Old Trafford? Would he have a future under Mourinho?
