With the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern dreaming of a Premier League title win, the punters propping up the bar are eager to read anything in regards to the strengthening of their squad.
Indeed, with Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof already on board and some promising performances in pre-season, our resident Red Devils really are quite excited about the start of the upcoming campaign.
While many of them are waxing poetic over their title chances, reports from the Sun have proved rather interesting. They claim star midfielder Juan Mata is keen to ensure he gets a new deal at Old Trafford, with his current one set to expire next summer.
Largely written off following the appointment of Jose Mourinho last year, the Spaniard impressed under his watch and the United-mad punters in our bar were happy to see him flourish with the former Chelsea boss at the helm.
Mata and his father are reportedly keen to start talks over a new long-term deal right away, though there isn’t thought to be much of a rush from the club’s perspective. He still has 12 months to go and United also have the option of extending it another year, with the 29-year-old currently earning around £170k-p/w.
A hugely popular figure amongst our drinkers, they hope Mata sticks around for the long haul.
