’70 million in January’ – Man United fans on Twitter react to unlikely performance

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased with their sides accomplished performance yesterday evening.

Manchester United qualified from group A last night as group winners after a 2-1 victory over CSKA Moscow, who bowed out of the competition following their defeat. Although qualification was not secured prior to kick-off, United were able to relax somewhat ahead of the Manchester derby as it would have taken a miraculous 7 goal defeat to CSKA Moscow to dump them out of the competition.

Despite the fact United’s qualification was all but secured prior to kick-off, Jose Mourinho still opted to select a side close to full strength.

However, there was one notable inclusion in Mourinho’s starting line-up, namely Luke Shaw, who seized a rare opportunity to impress in only his first start of the season.

Before last night, Shaw had played just 47 minutes of competitive first-team football all season in two League Cup cameo appearances.

After such a lengthy exile, Shaw could have been forgiven for showing signs of rustiness, but the English defender who was once tipped to be one of the world’s greatest marauding full-backs looked sharp throughout.

And his comeback performance earned him the man of the match award last night.

His contribution on the night was duly noted by the United supporters on Twitter who were eager to praise Shaw for his impressive return.

However, some of the supporters were critical for his defensive mistakes and held him accountable for CSKA’s opener.

Either way, the supporters will be dearly hoping that last night’s fixture represented the beginning of the resurrection of Luke Shaw’s stuttering career.

Here’s what the fans had to say on Twitter…
