A must-sign: The 25-year-old star that will complete Man Utd’s attacking transition

Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern really are expecting a lot of signings in the summer to get their side back on top of the pile in the Premier League.

When Jose Mourinho joined the Red Devils in the summer there was a real expectation that the club would be challenging for the league, at least, even if they did not eventually win it.

Instead, though, despite a serious outlay on the likes of Paul Pogba, United’s title challenge was over in the early months of the season and so there is a feeling that there’s still much work to be done.

Who Mourinho signs, then, remains to be seen but there should be a real case put forward for the Portuguese looking to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon.

United, of course, have an array of attacking stars but none of them quite combine pace and finishing ability as well as Lacazette.

Indeed, whilst Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have speed in abundance and Zlatan Ibrahimovic obviously knows where the goal is, Lacazette offers the best of both worlds.

With Ibrahimovic injured, of course, United have looked freer up front and more mobile – with many suggesting that is how they should approach next season – but both Martial and Rashford still have a great deal to learn.

In flashes they are brilliant but they can go off the boil as young players do and, if Mourinho decides that a fluid attack is the way forward as Ibrahimovic inevitably plays less games, only Lacazette can really be the solution.
