A shrewd move? The Chelsea outcast that might just prove himself at Manchester United

Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern want to see their side sign even more players in the summer transfer window.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, of course, as, despite the likes of Paul Pogba arriving, United still look some way away from becoming Premier League title winners.

Indeed, the area they need to improve in most of all, uncharacteristically of a Jose Mourinho side, is in defence with there still a serious case to suggest a new centre-back is needed.

Certainly, the club cannot go on with the likes of Marcos Rojo filling in out of position and though many would expect a marquee name to come in, United might be better off going for a somewhat left-field option – Kurt Zouma.

Zouma, of course, was signed by Jose Mourinho when he was at Chelsea and is largely seen as a potential Premier League centre-half to come.

At Chelsea at the moment, though, he looks slightly shut out with Nathan Ake ahead of him as the next man that could get into the Blues’ back-three.

A powerful defender, Zouma certainly ticks the Mourinho box of what he wants from a centre-half, though, and given that he doesn’t play regularly for Chelsea right now, he may not be as expensive as other options.

United, for sure, can’t spend as much as they did last summer and in Zouma they’d have an affordable, hungry and talented player that is rated by Jose Mourinho – which is more than can be said for many at Old Trafford right now.
