Jose Mourinho’s time as Manchester United manager could be coming to an end.

The Portuguese is under immense pressure following Manchester United’s worst start to top-flight season since 1989. United looked to have put their mini-slump behind them following three straight wins but defeat against West Ham has left questions to be answered. With the dressing room seemingly losing faith in the boss, the United brass may be forced to make a change.

Former Real Madrid boss, Zinedine Zidane, will be in the running for the position if Mourinho does leave the club after guiding his old side to three consecutive Champions League titles. While his resume in Spain is impressive, United represents a completely different challenge. Therefore, the man for the job could be former Chelsea manager – Antonio Conte.

The Italian is looking for a new job after leaving the Blues at the end of last season – winning the FA Cup was not enough to save himself from Roman Abramovich’s managerial axe. Conte arrived in England on the back of many successful years in charge of Juventus. After winning multiple Serie A titles, Conte lifted the Premier League in his first season in charge and earned plenty of praise for the way he got Chelsea playing.

While the Italian is also known for his defensive style, he still able to grind out results and lifted the trophy in style. Despite his second season not going to plan, Conte paid the price for not signing a top striker to fit his system. Whereas Alvaro Morata struggled, Romelu Lukaku would be the perfect fit and would score for fun in his system. Conte’s tactics could also help bring the best out of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who have struggled to force themselves into Mourinho’s plans.

Zidane may be the more luxurious appointment, Conte is the man United need to turn their season around.
