The season is not even over yet and our Manchester United supporting punters propping up the bar in the Transfer Tavern are starting to get the sense that their summer is going to consist of quite a few Portuguese flavoured sagas.

The pendulum that is Jose Mourinho’s proposed move to Old Trafford keeps on swinging, though he’s not the only native of Portugal to be extensively linked with a blockbuster move.

Benfica teenager Renato Sanches has been strongly touted as a mega money target over past few months after his emergence as one of the most promising talents on the continent.

Manchester City have also been credited with an interest, though it is undoubtedly the Red Devils who have been suggested as a landing spot more frequently.

The saga could soon be drawing to a close however, with reports from Portuguese outlet O Jogo that the president of the Lisbon giants has been in Manchester over the past few days in order to tie up a deal.

Luis Filipe Vieira is said to have been locked in discussion with movers, shakers and decision makers at the Theatre of Dreams as the deal edges ever closer.

It will reportedly cost the club a whopping €50m-€60m, a considerable fee for a teenager, no matter how highly rated.

Still, the success of Anthony Martial, who arrived for a huge sum of money a teen himself over the summer, is understood to have given the club confidence in pressing ahead with the stunning deal.

Just how good is Sanches? Can he adapt as quickly as Martial? The man to replace Roy Keane?
