Big Man United transfer line with Mourinho ready to axe LVG stalwart

Ahead of a season-defining Europa League final tomorrow night, the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are nervous indeed.

A win against Ajax in Stockholm would at least make Jose Mourinho’s first campaign at Old Trafford a passable one, though the Red Devils around the bar certainly are expecting more next term.

So, reports from ESPN have come as somewhat of a surprise. According to their report, the Portuguese is open to the idea of selling England international Chris Smalling this summer.

The 27-year-old is believed to have fallen behind the likes of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo in Mourinho’s thinking, despite proving to be a stalwart under Louis van Gaal.

Indeed, he captained the side regularly during the Dutchman’s tenure, though has been publicly criticised by the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ this season.

While the idea of selling Smalling may have been a rather strange one this time last year, many of our resident United fans believe the former Fulham man is a rather disposable member of the squad.
