Blockbuster Man United target snubbed sensational Arsenal and Real Madrid offers, Woodward’s first major coup

Despite their standing as one of the proudest institutes of world football, it’s not often the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern get to see their club muscle out the rest of the European big boys in the race for top targets.

Ed Woodward’s reign over transfers and the like has been a series of unfortunate events at the very best, with the Red Devils often missing out on big names.

Renato Sanches, Gareth Bale, Mats Hummels and Cesc Fabregas are perhaps the most notable.

However, with Jose Mourinho finally set to take the reins, the Manchester giants look to finally put their near misses behind them and get back to competing at the top of continental football.

Doing just that on the pitch may take the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ a little while, though it appears the club have already pulled off a stunning coup over some of Europe’s powerhouses.

That’s because, according to the Sun, the 53-year old rejected the likes of Real Madrid, Arsenal, Inter Milan and AS Roma to move to Old Trafford.

It’s not often these days that the biggest name chose to move to the Theatre of Dreams when offered those sort of clubs, but perhaps this will signal a change in the faltering fortunes at Old Trafford.

Despite being sacked by Chelsea after a miserable season, Mourinho remains one of the elite managers in the world and was understood to be inundated with offers from all around the globe.

However, one of the managerial sagas of the ages looks to be drawing to a close as his move to United edges ever closer.

Will Mourinho win the Premier League in his first season with Manchester United?
