To say that Alexis Sanchez has been underwhelming since arriving at Manchester United last January would be the understatement of the century. The Chilean winger is a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal, putting in performances that barely warrant a place in teams languishing at the bottom of the table.
Since the start of United’s poor season, players have been increasingly scrutinised by fans who are eagerly looking for someone and something to blame. Mr. Sanchez is no exception, and the inconsistencies in his performances have been highlight over and over again. Indeed, it’s no surprise that frustration is mounting in the United camp, as Sanchez has until recently been getting picked week in and week out over fan favourites Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Despite scoring the late winner in United’s emphatic comeback against Newcastle United, it looks like Sanchez’s career in Manchester is all but over, and if recent reports from the Daily Mail are correct personal problems could be the final straw for the forward as he looks for a way out.
With Sanchez’s departure in mind, here are two players we believe have the quality to replace him…
Gomes is something of a prodigy at Manchester United. The Englishman already has some senior appearances under his belt, and at the age of 16 broke the record for the youngest player to turn out for the first team since Duncan Edwards in 1953.
Now, at 18-years-of-age the player is looking better than ever. Jose Mourinho has closely monitored his progression, selectively introducing him to first team training sessions. Like with any raw talent, enough care, attention and exposure should help him fulfil his potential.
We note that Angel Gomes’ ability to take the ball past players with exceptional ball control and speed should get the Manchester faithful excited again.
Brought in from Feyenoord, Chong has made a name himself on the wings, and has been likened to United legend Ryan Giggs. He’s quality on the ball and has the energy to track back and play defensively should he ever be required.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
