Manchester United fans within the Transfer Tavern are currently still on cloud nine, having beaten Man City to stop them winning the Premier League against the Red Devils. In what was a spirited second-half performance, it makes the United fans wonder what their season could have been like if they continued to perform like they did.
Man United have had a disappointing season in regard to their high standards and the best way to amend their poor form is to splash the cash this summer, ensuring that doesn’t happen again. The current United team is one blessed with potential and with a few top additions in the upcoming transfer window, Man United could well be considered as title rivals to the Citizens.
When thinking of what improvements the Red Devils need to make, we identified replacing Ashley Young in left-back as a top priority. Although Young has been sturdy all season long, if Man United seriously want to improve, this is where they should start. Despite rumours linking Danny Rose to Old Trafford being very strong, we believe that instead of Rose, United should eye un-wanted Barcelona left-back Lucas Digne, who is valued at £13.50 million on Transfermarkt.
The Frenchman is still just 24-years-old and has years ahead to improve his game. It’s a testament to his ability considering he has played 18 times for Barcelona this season, proving he is a very capable player and one involved in the talent-packed Les Bleus national squad on a fairly regular basis.
While not as searingly quick as Rose, Digne would be a reliable option on the left and would give Mourinho a much better sense of balance in his backline heading into next season. Indeed, our punters feel that as Man City did last summer, improving the defence must be the number aim for United if they want to properly challenge City and any others for the title.
