Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the best part of the week discussing the latest transfer news, with links continuing to circulate around the head of one target.
Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann is the prime target for Manchester United this summer, with Jose Mourinho keen to bolster his attacking options at Old Trafford as it seems increasingly likely the Red Devils will lose the services of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.
A whopping fee would be required to bring the French international to the Premier League but United have little difficulty presenting that sum of cash, as Griezmann would have the same commercial pull as Paul Pogba- who landed a world-record move to Old Trafford from Juventus last year.
Whilst Griezmann is open to the possibility of a move to Mourinho’s side, ESPN sources indicate that the Frenchman has reservations about leaving Spain, having spent the entirety of his professional career there with Atletico and Real Sociedad.
The most formidable stumbling block, however, is down to the Champions League, as United would find it extremely difficult to lure Griezmann to the club without the lure of involvement in the biggest competition in Europe.
Our landlord believes United should be able to sort a workaround to overcome these issues though, stating that Griezmann’s close friendship with compatriot Pogba will be huge in the negotiations.
Will Griezmann be a Manchester United player next summer? Let us know in the comments below!
