Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited at the prospect of Marcos Rojo making a comeback from injury ahead of their Champions League encounter with Benfica on Wednesday.
The Argentinian defender ruptured his knee ligaments against Anderlecht back in April and has been sidelined ever since, but the Express has reported that he could return to the matchday squad for this week’s contest in Lisbon. Luke Shaw was also pictured boarding the flight to Portugal and both players will be eager to reacquaint themselves with the first-team setup as they seek to break into the starting eleven.
The task of finding a place in Jose Mourinho’s formidable lineup will prove difficult with the Red Devils only conceding two goals- both in a 2-2 draw at Stoke- in eight Premier League matches. All the defenders called upon have performed well from Phil Jones partnership with Eric Bailly at the heart of the defence to Ashley Young’s recent impressive displays at left-back.
However, prior to his injury Rojo had been an integral part of United’s team having successfully overcome some initial teething problems in the English game. He offers intelligence, composure and good technique whether he’s operating as a centre-half or as a full-back. Expected to be back in around 2 weeks, the Argentina international is a hugely popular figure.
With that in mind, here’s how the Old Trafford reacted to his imminent return on Twitter…
Marcos Rojo went on tour, so fact he travelled with @ManUtd doesn't neccessarily mean he is fit. Luke Shaw obviously is as played for U23s

Rojo being back kicks Smalling out the squad and reunites these 2. Such a good duo they were in the back end of last season. pic.twitter.com/MdGYtDn2Ba

cannot wait for the first Rojo two footer of the season
Love how rival fans moan when Rojo gets away with red cards. Can't wait to see him two foot their favorite strikers.

Happy to see Rojo back but worried that he will be inevitably used at left back and that has rarely worked well for Utd or Argentina
