The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t quite sure what to make about Jose Mourinho. While the Portuguese has won trophies during his time in charge of the club, many of our resident Red Devils still don’t believe he’s the right man to take them forward.
With that in mind, there are a growing number of voices amongst those who frequent in their droves urging movers and shakers at Old Trafford to replace the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’. For many United fans, his style of play and demeanour just aren’t in line with the club’s historic traditions and they seriously need to catch Manchester City in order to stop a period of utter dominance at the Etihad.
So, having said that, the punters propping up our bar would love to see United make a move for Luis Enrique. The Spaniard is currently out of work and has been touted as an option for either Arsenal or Chelsea, though would be an interesting option for Manchester United.
Having won a treble with Barcelona, the idea of he and former teammate Pep Guardiola battling within the same city is seriously exciting. Exactly what an attack-minded manager such as Enrique could do with a squad containing the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Marital and Juan Mata is seriously exciting and the 47-year-old certainly comes with a winning mentality.
Having managed the Blaugrana to great effect, Enrique is undoubtedly big enough to take on the challenge at the Theatre of Dreams. Ed Woodward got burned once when losing out on Guardiola to City, he needs to ensure he doesn’t lose out on the perfect manager to a potential title rival again.
