Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling a bit under the weather today, after celebrating last night’s victory over Hull City long into the night.
A juicy bit of transfer gossip from the landlord behind the bar has sparked them into life though, as they’ve been left discussing the future of a big-name signing who has failed to settle at Old Trafford.
Reports from Foot Mercato state Ligue 1 giants Lyon have opened negotiations with Memphis Depay, who seems to be surplus to requirements in the eyes of United boss Jose Mourinho.
The Dutch winger arrived in Manchester from PSV Eindhoven with a strong reputation and plenty of potential but has thus far failed to harness that in the Premier League, falling behind the likes of Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the pecking order.
Speculation continues to indicate that the 22-year-old could move elsewhere before the end of the month and Lyon’s club hierarchy have initiated talks, although manager Bruno Genesio is unconvinced by the winger.
Our landlord believes United may be moving to soon with a sale though and has urged the club to consider an initial loan move, as he feels Depay has plenty of potential and could still be a star at Old Trafford if he finds full form.
