Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen their celebrations cut short after reaching the League Cup final, with the morning’s papers suggesting some grim news.
Spanish outlet Don Balon states that Jose Mourinho is still very close with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Los Blancos’ chief could seek a deal for the Portuguese boss to return to the Santiago Bernabeu.
54-year-old Mourinho spent three-years at Real Madrid before returning to Chelsea in 2013 but he struggled to make a lasting impression, winning the Copa Del Rey in his first season and the La Liga crown in his second year before leaving at the end of his third season.
Whilst at Real Madrid, Mourinho lost the dressing room with high-profile clashes with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas but the door seemingly remains open for a return.
Despite Real Madrid currently sitting top of the table under Zinedine Zidane, the French legend has somewhat remarkably seen his position become precarious following a shock Copa Del Rey defeat to Celta Vigo this week.
Dreams of a treble are now dead and, whilst hopes of winning the league and successfully defending their Champions League crown remain, Zidane could be forced to leave if Real’s poor run of form continues.
Our landlord doesn’t think it’s something United fans should worry about immediately though, stating a move is more likely to happen in a year or two.
