Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have gathered early this morning for the lunchtime Europa League draw, where the Red Devils will find out their opponents for the semi-finals.
Whilst they wait, supporters have debated what sort of summer business should be completed this summer and the future of star goalkeeper David de Gea has once again been called into question, with Champions League semi-finalists Real Madrid continuing to eye a pursuit.
The fans are adamant Jose Mourinho should do all he can to keep the Spaniard at Old Trafford, although some admit he’s facing a losing battle, and they’ve found themselves agreeing with sensational demands made by former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen.
Speaking to TalkSport, Sir Alex Ferguson’s former right-hand man suggested the Red Devils should push for Gareth Bale to be included in a deal for De Gea.
“You can’t stop the speculation – it won’t go away. As a manager you have to say, ‘OK, what is really the case here with De Gea? Does he want to go? Is he going? What is the best scenario for us?”
“The speculation has been there now for three years and Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have to make sure, if it is the case [Real Madrid want him], what is the best outcome for Manchester United?”
“For instance, they say ‘Ok, you get De Gea, we want Bale’. There has to be something where Manchester United come out of it even better.”
Whilst our landlord believes Meulensteen is right with his comments that Manchester United should ensure they get a good deal, he’s stated the likelihood of Bale coming the other way is near impossible.
