As if Friday afternoon in the Transfer Tavern wasn’t a joyous enough occasion, the Manchester United fans lining up for after work drinks are in a great mood following reports in the The Sun that Jose Mourinho has begun telling people close to him a deal to takeover as boss in the summer is all but agreed.
Speculation surrounding the former Chelsea manager has been rampant ever since his Stamford Bridge dismissal back in December, with his shadow looming large over Old Trafford for a number of months.
Current boss Louis van Gaal has presided over a relatively poor season, especially after such hefty investment during his tenure, and looks as if he will miss out on qualification for the Champions League.
He’s never truly looked overly comfortable in the role and has often been criticised for the methodical style of play deployed while in charge.
Now, The Sun have quoted Spanish football expert and well known pundit Guillem Balague in saying: ‘Mourinho’s people are saying everything is done and Mourinho is telling people close to him the same thing.’
The out of work former 53-year old has also been linked with a shocking return to former club Real Madrid, though talk of joining the Red Devils has been mooted for some time now.
United are still only a point off the top four, though recent performances have not been overly encouraging. Rivals Manchester City have hit form as of late and the Red Devils must first overcome a very tricky tie with title hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur to keep up ground on the race for Europe’s top continental competition.
How will United’s emerging youth talent fare under the potential stewardship of Jose Mourinho?
