In a story that will not exactly inspire the fans of Manchester United before the second leg against Real Madrid, Metro claim that Sir Alex Ferguson has played down speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo may well be rejoining the club.
Both fans and the media have been speculating that the unhappy Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Old Trafford in the summer. Fergie claimed that: “I don’t think there’s anything, as far as I’m aware, that would encourage me to think he would come back here. I don’t think there’s anything in that at all.”
Not only do United fans want to see Ronaldo back at Old Trafford but they have kept the star in their hearts even though he jumped ship for the Spanish giants and scored against them in the first leg with a sensational header. Ronaldo of course has never been back to play at Old Trafford in the Champions League and many fans wondered if Ronaldo may choke on his return.
Fergie further added: “Real have a lot of good players, but it’s quite right to think Ronaldo is their best. He’s much better now than when he left United. He’s mature now. He’s 28 and at the peak of his career. From 28 to 32 or 33, with the fitness he has, you expect him to play at his peak.”
