First major exit of Mourinho era nears with Man United set to lose trophy-laden legend

Giggs

There’s little doubt it is an exciting time at Manchester United, who recently won the FA Cup and look as if they have a blockbuster new manager on the way at last.

However, as much as the United fans in the Transfer Tavern dream with wide eyed wonderment about just how many league titles Jose Mourinho could deliver, there’s a rather uneasy mood amongst them this evening.

In part, that’s due to reports from the Sun it seems.

They claim that while the arrival of the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is due to go ahead without any problems, it could spell the end to an illustrious Old Trafford career for a certain Ryan Giggs.

The Welshman has been acting as an assistant to current boss Louis van Gaal and was even touted as a potential successor in some circles, in an effort to emulate the success of Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.

While it is claimed the Red Devils will do all they can to keep the trophy-laden Welshman at the Theatre of Dreams, Mourinho is reportedly convinced he will reject an offer to stay on as an assistant under him.

Giggs was a product of the club’s academy and went on to become a mainstay during their most successful period in history under Sir Alex Ferguson before his retirement in 2014.

He took interim charge of the first-team following the sacking of David Moyes that year and has been studying under the Dutchman ever since.

Should Giggs have been given the job instead? Or would that be far too risky?
