The Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still getting over the surprising news that they may be in for Alexis Sanchez this window. Indeed, it's the one thing our resident Red Devils can have over title rivals, Manchester City.

Clearly, United are keen to bring a left-sided winger into the team to try and start bringing a little balance to the team that is so desperately needed. Still, Sanchez may be a talented and experienced option but Mourinho would be silly not to look elsewhere for a better, more long-term addition to the squad.

Many of our punters believe that Sanchez is merely using United, like so many have done in the past, to generate himself a better financial deal at Man City, should he move.

Indeed, Mourinho and the Old Trafford faithful would love the thought of taking one of Arsenal's prized possessions from under their noses to better their own squad. The likelihood of the Sanchez deal happening is 50/50, so on that thought process, our landlord takes a look at two other wingers United should be looking at...

Thomas Lemar

Lemar brings the versatility that Mourinho wants at United. Lemar can play on both flanks as well as up front, and the attack-minded Monaco player could be a crowd favourite with his dribbling ability.

Arsenal had a last-ditch attempt to sign the player rebuffed in the summer, though interest remains from all over the Premier League in the Frenchman. Although Lemar comes with a hefty price tag, Mourinho must surely wheel and deal in order to create the funds needed to push the deal through. He'd be worth it.

Malcom

The Brazilian wonder-kid is in a similar mould to Lemar, he can play out on the wing and across the front line when needed. With both plying their current trade in the French League, a move to the Premier League shouldn't be daunting for the 20-year-old.

Bordeaux may be reluctant to sell the Brazilian but with 18 months left on his contract and the big teams around Europe starting to sniff around, this may be a good a time as any to cash in on the youngster.
