Forget De Gea: Man Utd must act on huge transfer opportunity this summer

The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern have been locked in debate over the last few days regarding rumours from the Manchester Evening News. According to the publication, Man Utd have been made aware that Real Madrid trio Toni Kroos, Luca Modric and Gareth Bale could be made available in some form this summer, whilst Los Blancos are said to be keen on Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea.

In response, Man Utd have instead apparently prioritised renewing De Gea’s contract – leading our resident Red Devils divided.

Our landlord, though, is convinced that a move for German midfielder Toni Kroos could be an even bigger deal than an extended deal for De Gea, and he has provided a few reasons why.

Toni Kroos, undoubtedly, is one of Europe’s best. He’s an unbelievable passer of the ball, and that’s something that Man Utd are lacking at present. Further to that, he’s also a solid tackler and the mental side of his game, including his concentration and reading of the game, is remarkable. He’s also a willing runner, and he’s able to track back defensively and move play forward with ease.

Further to that, the German is also a player that the Red Devils can build the team around. He would join a core of midfielders – notably Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic – that are crying out for a player of his quality. If they were to combine as a trio, that could take Man Utd’s midfield to the next level. He’s only 28-years-old, and so Jose Mourinho would have more than a few years left to utilise him whilst he’s at the top of his game.

Sure, De Gea is an unbelievable player, and he is crucial for Man Utd. But there are plenty of other top goalkeepers in Europe, and there aren’t quite as many players like Toni Kroos. Both would make Man Utd a better team, but in the event that Man Utd must move De Gea on to be able to land Kroos – they must take that option.

This isn’t a transfer opportunity that they can afford to miss out on.
