The Manchester United fans have been feeling relatively downbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after their hopes of hosting a late surge to challenge Manchester City for the title were all but ended by their defeat against Newcastle United.
Pep Guardiola’s side have looked like certain to lift the Premier League trophy this year since they defeated their local-rivals at Old Trafford back in December, but there was still a glimmer of hope prior to the weekend. However, their 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park left them 16 points adrift of City and in need of a minor miracle to catch their so-called noisy neighbours this season.
With that being said, united’s priority will now be to achieve automatic qualification for the Champions League next season and to identify a handful of quality players to bring to Old Trafford in the summer.
According to The Daily Mirror, Ajax’s emerging talent Justin Kluivert has recently stated that he would be interested in joining Manchester United in the future, so The Red Devils may be tempted to pursue his signature at the end of the season.
However, Mourinho would be wise to allow the Dutch youngster to develop at Ajax before bringing him the Premier League and instead focus on bringing Bayer Leverkusen’s highly-regarded winger Leon Bailey (valued at £25.2 million by Transfermarkt) to the club.
Bailey has been in sensational form for the German giants this year with 8 goals and 5 assists from his 19 appearances in the Bundesliga, whereas Kluivert has 6 goals and 4 assists from the same number of appearances.
The fact that the Jamaican international has been performing so well in a league as competitive as the Bundesliga at just 20-years-of-age indicates the enormity of his potential, so Mourinho should do everything he can to bring him to the club next summer before his stock increases due to heightened demand for his services.
