“Gutted” – Man United fans react to EFL Cup final setback

Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are growing a little nervous ahead of their EFL Cup final clash with Southampton on Sunday.

Although the Red Devils enter the final as firm favourites, Jose Mourinho has confirmed they will be without summer signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan due to injury.

Team-mates Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney will both be available, but that hasn’t eased the concerns of United patrons in the Tavern this afternoon, who rate the Armenian assassin as one of their most important attacking players.

After a difficult start to his Old Trafford career, Mkhitaryan has been in fantastic form of late, notching up three goals and two assists in his last six appearances across all competitions.

But more than simply output, the former Borussia Dortmund star has emerged as United’s biggest asset on the counter-attack, eating up ground with his penetrative pace and renowned dribbling ability.

Mourinho has plenty of options to fall back on, not least including the aforementioned Rooney, but United fans in the Tavern and on Twitter are gutted for the 28-year-old – and worried about how his absence will affect their side’s chances on Sunday.
