Where to start with Dimitar Berbatov? Last seasons Premier League’s joint top goal-scorer, this season’s forgotten man. That best sums up his time at United. Berbatov moved to United for £30.75m from Spurs in 2008 and since then has been pretty much been an enigma. He is gifted with talent, intelligence and skill but his lethargic style often lets him down and gets so many fans frustrated.
As the Bulgarian striker’s contract draws closer to the end, it can only lead to speculation that the intelligent yet languid striker will be leaving Old Trafford in January. Berbatov came with a hefty price around his head; if any sort of profit or return comes near to his £30.75m price tag it would be deemed miraculous. Few would expect the resale value for Berbatov will draw a smile on the Glazers let alone Sir Alex. However what would probably give the Glazer family a heart attack would be Berbatov leaving the club on a free at the end of the year. Talk about money down the drain!
Berbatov was given the go-ahead by Sir Alex Ferguson to join PSG in the summer but the move faded away and now Galatasaray president Unal Aysal has confirmed the Istanbul side is considering a January move for the 30-year-old striker.
Berbatov has only started once for United this season in eleven games, mostly being used for Carling Cup matches and Unal Aysal has pin-pointed the Bulgarian as a potential target amongst other strikers.
He said: “We’re not just looking at Berbatov: we’re interested in a number of players. Yes, we’re thinking of forwards, but now is far too early,”
“We can only get in contact and decide at the end of December, when the time comes. We have four or five players in mind.”
