Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been licking their lips today, after hearing reports hot off the press from the continent.
The Red Devils fans have had their ears pricked for any update in their club’s pursuit for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann, who faces an uncertain future in the Spanish capital as a wealth of sides chase his signature.
Whilst Manchester United are desperate to land Griezmann’s services, the French striker’s advisor Eric Olhats has confirmed their is interest from elsewhere – although he added the Red Devils have shown the most interest, whilst also stating Paris Saint-Germain are no longer seeking the player.
“There was Manchester United who came, who inquired, they told us about their project. They were the first and most concrete in their wish.”
“Last year, there was a real interest (from PSG), and this year, no, it’s not part of their plans.”
Manchester United would have to offer a stunning €100m deal to land Griezmann though as Atletico will demand that his release-clause is met, which Olhats adds has limited the amount of clubs that are capable of securing the striker’s signature.
“We are currently in the area of taking information from clubs that have concrete means. There is a clause, which is 100 million euros, which is unavoidable. Of candidates. These candidates are the English clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea. In Spain, Barcelona, Real Madrid . “
Moving across Madrid may come as a surprise but Olhats issued a damning statement of Manchester United, stating they do not offer the same level of competitiveness that Real Madrid do.
“If Diego Simeone, his mentor, is leaving, he has to leave too, and afterwards, in relation to the different choices he has, I think the most obvious, and here I forget the Madrid problem.”
“He’s a great player, but you have to raise trophies, Real Madrid seems to me a lot better than Manchester United because there’s Zizou, there’s a team Where things seem clear, structured.”
“Manchester United is not yet relaunched, they had to revive themselves this year, even in a transitional year, but they are lagging behind their passing times.”
Our landlord believes the last statement is true, adding that he thinks a player like Griezmann, who recently turned 26, will be eyeing immediate success after numerous heartbreaks in recent years.
Griezmann finished runner-up in the Champions League last season, with Atletico losing to Real Madrid in the final, before enduring defeat in the Euro 2016 final with France.
