Scrutinised by the manager, berated by the fans, and laughed at by the rest of the league; it’s no secret that Manchester United have had problems on and off the pitch this year.
A witch hunt has ensued following the team’s poor start to the season in which the players, staff and boardroom have all been thrown under the proverbial bus.
However, with large chunks of the United faithful aiming their blame at the players rather than Mr. Mourinho, we take a look at which disposable members of the squad should be sacrificed to make way for the better of the club…
Originally brought in by a certain Sir. Alex Ferguson, Phil Jones hasn’t really fulfilled the potential he was once touted to possess. Despite putting in pockets of good performances during his time in Manchester, his growth as a player has always been stunted by a proneness to injury that his seen him take up semi-permanent residence in the medical centre.
Although Jones recently revived his starting place in team against Derby in the EFL cup, the dream return wasn’t to be as he missed the vital penalty that put United out of the running. Jones, now, seems to have become a successful internet meme, and that’s perhaps where his future is bound. Not Old Trafford.
As quoted by ESPN, Mourinho believes that it is a ‘mystery’ what has happened to Alexis Sanchez’s form since swapping north London for Manchester in January last year. For fans, however, his poor performances are a little less cryptic. Evidently, the Chilean whizz isn’t enjoying his time in a United shirt, and the frustration and anguish is plain to see every time he’s substituted off in the 70th minute.
Since donning the piano in his bizarre welcome video, the forward hasn’t hit any of the right notes on the pitch, and his tendency to misplace simple passes and lose the ball in key areas has increased ten-fold since joining. With young Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial vying for his starting place, which Sanchez seems to have kept by virtue of wage bill, it’s probably best the club consider the possibility to selling come 2019.Like what the TT have on offer?
