Ole Gunnar Solskjaer achieved something that David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho couldn’t in his first game as Manchester United manager.

The club legend was handed the reins for the first time against the club he relegated – Cardiff City. Solskjaer promised to play attacking football once again with the Red Devils, and his squad did not disappoint. United ran out 5-1 winners against the Bluebirds with goals from Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard. The result means Solksjaer becomes the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to watch United score five goals in a single game.

The result will give United the confidence they need to recover from their dismal start and secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season. The upcoming January transfer window is the perfect opportunity to right the wrongs of the summer and strengthen the current roster of players.

Defence should still be a priority and United should turn their attention to Monaco defender – Jemerson. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Brazilian joined the French side back in 2016 after impressing in his homeland for Atletico Mineiro. The 26-year-old has been a key player ever since, making 33 appearances in Ligue 1 under Leonardo Jardim last season. However, with Monaco struggling in the league, currently sat 19th in the table, the defender could be tempted to leave in the upcoming window.

The Brazilian is a no-nonsense defender who can add some stability to the United back line. As well as being strong in the tackle and excellent in the air, Jemerson also excels with the ball at his feet. The former Brazil international possesses a wonderful range of passing and brilliant composure that allows him to start attacks from the back.

A move to the Premier League could do wonders for his career.
