A late Ross Barkley goal denied Manchester United all three points against Chelsea at the weekend.
Returning to his former club, Jose Mourinho’s side fell behind after Antonio Rudiger headed home in the 21st. However, two goals from Anthony Martial after the interval seemingly secured a marvellous win for the visitors before Barkley struck in the 96th minute to rescue a point for Maurizio Sarri. A scuffle at the end of proceedings with a Chelsea coach ensured the game ended on a sour note.
Conceding so late will be a bitter blow to Mourinho who was in desperate need of a win in the Premier League. The result leaves United seven points behind the Blues in the table so expect Mourinho to enter the transfer market in January. The Red Devils boss still wants to sign a new centre-back and reports have linked Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly to Old Trafford.
However, United should sign Sampdoria defender, Joachim Andersen, instead. Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Dane joined the Serie A side from Twente last summer but was restricted to just seven league appearances in his debut campaign. Since then, Anderson has adapted to life in Italy and has developed into a key player for his side.
Andersen has made eight appearances in the Serie A so far this season and earned plenty of plaudits for his impressive showings. The 22-year-old could be the ideal addition to United’s squad and prove to be a masterstroke of a signing. The youngster excels with the ball at his feet, completing 89% of his passes so far this season. He is also a massive threat in the air, winning 1.6 aerial duels per game this season (WhoScored).
Bringing Koulibaly to Manchester could break the bank while Anderson could prove to be a suitable alternative for half the price.
