It’s safe to say that Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for better things next season with their side unlikely to be claiming any type of awards come the end of this campaign.
For a club that looked so dominant at the start of the season, their energy and stamina has been absent since the first few games, as they have failed to keep up with runaway rivals Manchester City. The summer transfer window will be an important period for the Red Devils to scout and recruit some new talent for the Old Trafford faithful to get behind.
A young prodigy that has entered the frame this season is Benfica centre-back Ruben Dias, who is valued at £6.30 million on Transfermarkt. The 20-year-old has held his own at times and looked to be a real enforcer capable of sweeping any danger that might come near.
He was promoted from Benfica’s B team before the start of the season as the first-team clearly saw the potential in Dias, and wow, has he lived up to it. In the 17 league matches Dias has played in, eight have those have resulted in clean sheets and he’s even popped up with 3 goals and 4 in all competitions thus far.
United have had few defensive problems but it’s more the troubles of trying to keep players fit, such as Eric Bailly. The Red Devils have very capable defenders within their ranks but none with the potential as great as Ruben Dias. With that valuation as well, our punters would love to see Manchester United make an ambitious signing with one eye on the future.
