With the team flying high in second in the league – their best so far in the post-Fergie era, and in their 20th FA Cup final things are looking good for our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern.
United have looked like a force to be reckoned with in the league despite a couple of tough watches for our punters in the bar and Jose Mourinho will only look to improve next season to finally clinch the Premier League crown again.
Mourinho has had to keep the squad ticking over as much as he can at times during the season and, not everybody has stepped up the plate like most of our regulars expected them to.
The recent display to relegation-threatened West Brom must have left manager Mourinho furious and surely wondered why they lacked any type of passion and energy for the match. That has kind of summed up United tough watches over the past few months, alongside being knocked out of the Champions League with a lacklustre performance to Sevilla.
Mourinho desperately needs to strengthen in the summer and these two players who have been awful so far will surely have one eye on the door out…
The United left-back has been given numerous chances with the last two managers to show what he is capable of, yet he always fails to live up to expectations despite somewhat of a resurgence in the early part of the calendar year.
This season United have looked short in the left back position and having to make-do with former winger turned full-back, Ashley Young, Shaw has once again largely failed to show up this season and time must be ticking for the former Southampton man at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman had been in sparkling form at the start of the campaign, however, following an injury he has stuttered his way through the season so far. He has shown glimpses of the Pogba everybody wants to see – which was highlighted in his second-half display against Man City.
But on the whole, when United have needed him the most this calendar year, Pogba has largely been missing in the midfield.
Much has been made over his starting position in recent months, but a player of Pogba’s quality should be able to play anywhere and influence the game.
