He has been a firm favourite at the Football Transfer Tavern over the last few months and it looks like being a happy New Year for Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski who is set to sign for Manchester United according to the Mail Online.
The striker has long been linked to the English giants, but with Dortmund riding high in the Champions League – pipping Real Madrid to the top spot in their respective group – a move in the summer looked most likely. However the club are willing to let the player make a dream move for around £18 million after resigning themselves to losing the player.
The Polish player has pushed to join Sir Alex Ferguson’s men and has agreed a deal that will net him £4.1 million annually, putting him right up there with the top earners at the club. United of course already have a formidable strike force with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and co netting 48 goals in 19 games yet Fergie believes that pairing the 23-year-old with van Persie and playing Rooney just behind will give the team a different dimension.
Lewandowski has already bagged 14 goals in 23 appearances, including netting against Real Madrid – United’s stellar opponents in the forthcoming Champions League knock-out round.
